Competitive Ballroom Dancing
Dance Atlanta students learn the skill, technique and precision to become national champions in the various ballroom circuits, and it shows -- Jorge's students continue to achieve 1st place and top-3 placements in many national competitions.
In Pro/Am Ballroom competitions, a student dances with his/her instructor and competes against other students dancing with their instructors. The competitions are categorized into different divisions based on (1) Style of dance Smooth/Latin; (2) Level of dance - beginner through advanced; and (3) Age. This way, students compete against other students in the same division, at the same proficiency level, and in the same age category. Students can be ready for competition at the beginner level in as little as 3 months.
Most competitive students begin taking lessons as adults, and very few have had any prior formal dance training. Through the progression of their lessons, a student may decide that competition would be a fun way to challenge themselves physically and mentally to take their dancing and performing skills to new heights. Most competitive students take 1-3 lessons per week, and they can also choose to compete locally, regionally, and/or nationally.
